    Soxcat..

The answer to the 3-4 is to be physical enough in the run game because of their smaller front 7.

We have already proven this several times on other threads that 3-4 defenses are not smaller but actually larger per man. The pats defense is a 3-4 and may be the largest in the whole league. The colts 4-3 is the smallest and typically one of the fastest. 3-4 defenses typically have 300 lb ends and 260lb linebackers. 4-3 defenses often have 260-270 lb ends with 230-240 lb linebackers.

    Key to playing vince..

Don't blitz and put the maximum number of players in zone coverage. You don't want to play man for obvious reasons the defenders won't pick him up as fast running and if you send the house and vince gets past it it's over.. The key is to lay back, be conservative and try to make vince beat you with his arm.

Vince's worst game by the way came against a 4-3 team the fags. Vince's passing rating in his 2 games against the colts was about 50. There may be some advantage in having the 2 outside guys in the front 7 standing up and not rushing all the time as far as keeping him from running all over the place but that's it.

Thats a good point. When you look at SD they have 260-270 pound guys playing as OLBs. Also in the 3-4 you have 3 interior guys that usually consist of two guys DT size and one guy who is the NG that weighs over 320.

When you look at our standar 4-3 we are puny. Our DEs are not any bigger than SD or the Pats OLBs and our OLBs are guys weighing 230. Also the talent pool coming out of college seems to have a large number of guys who fall into that tweener category (we have one in Ford). There are a number of 250-260 pound DEs in college that are athletic, fast but are questionable NFL players in a standard 4-3 because they have to go head to head with 320 pound OTs. Trying to find guys who can both handle huge athletic OTs physically and still have the speed to rush the QB is very difficult (Kearse would have been better suited in a 3-4 OLB role IMO, he would be unblockable and still fast enough to drop in coverage occasionally). Also there are a handfull of college DTs that are a little too small or weak to play in a 4-3 DT spot and too big or slow to play DE but fit nicely into a 3-4 DE role. Seems like the 3-4 is better suited to finding talent and with the variations of pass rusing and coverages you can throw at a QB the 3-4 makes a lot of sense.

I agree on your VY comment. I'd consider putting 8 guys back in zone coverage. You have guys spread all over the field where they are not running our of position and most are looking forward. If VY runs you will not have guys out of position or running with their backs to him. It also puts a premium on the QB having to make good decisions and very accurate throws.

    I'll say this..

Better not spy him with a DT like the texans did. That poor guy must have felt so useless as vince ran by him he would have better just rushed him. You can use a DT for a mcnair(when he ran) or a culpepper but not young or vick. Just too fast.

Doss sucks. Antoine Bethea played very well filling in for him. Cato June is really not that great. Yeah, he puts up good stats, but so do all weakside LBs in the Tampa 2. Their defense is not as shot as it seems, because Kelvin hayden is going to be more than reliable for them.
