I don't care who it is besides Poe. I'm thinking 1a. Brockers 1b. Still 2. Worthy. I feel like that is the greatest area of need besides C, and we can find a decent C in the later rounds. The rest of our D is solid, but we need a difference maker in there right now. I bet all my points on Brockers so I really hope its him.
You said we need a difference maker. Problem is there might not be any real difference makers at DT when we draft. A lot of good prospects but not real difference makers. The real difference makers are the edge rushers like Branch and Curry. Getting another Jevon Kearse type player would be preferable to getting another Casey type guy. DT is a bigger need position but Branch and Curry can be big time impact players. I don't see any of the DTs being like that.
With Worthy, Reyes, Still, Thompson, and Wolfe all projected in the 2nd I believe it would be perfectly fine if we picked BPA and then went DT in the 2nd.
Brockers/Cox would be the only DT's i want at 20, if not i think we can get a DT with our 2nd round pick. It really will depend on the 19 teams infront of us. My gut is we end up with kirkpatrick
If you want a DT that will impact the game from the first snap of the season then the two choices are Fletcher Cox or Devin Still. Cox and Still are the only two DT in the class that I see as being able to provide a constant interior pass rush. If we want a NT type to take multiple blockers and one to provide a pass rushing presences then either of those two should be pair with Casey. If we want our DT's to primarily stop the run and disrupt the QB from stepping up in the pocket however we would be better off taking the BPA on defense (probably a DE) and grabbing Thompson or Martin in round 2.
The only DT that I would be fired up getting in the first is Cox. I'm not a huge Brockers fan because of the fact that so many LSU DL have busted recently in the pros. That might not be fair to Brockers, but besides being BIG he doesn't blow you away with strength and quickness. Their are no Suh's or AH's in this draft, but the depth is very good. A solid starter will easily be had in the 2nd rnd.
There's only 5-6 DT's that will improve our team, so the depth is only half as good as everyone keeps saying. If one of the right guys is there at 20 I have no issues taking a DT in round 1.
To me it is quite simple; Kuechly Branch Curry In that order and if they are not there you look at Floyd or Decastro and if they are also not there you go for a guy like Still. The idea that you have to take a DT no matter what is very very wrong.
No doubt we need a DT. But I don't feel that we need to take one @ #20. I'm really hoping that either Kuechly, DeCastro or Floyd will fall to us. I've never liked the idea of passing on a better player just to fulfill the need. Draft BPA regardless of need. Unless of course we're talking RB or QB.
