Here’s where we stand after week 4.

We’ve gave up a total of 108 points through 4 games – Last season we gave up a total of 234 for the regular season(nearly half already), so we’re on track right now to allow a pathetic 432 against us. Not as bad as the 08’ Lions, but let’s just say we’re in that ball park estimate.

We’re in the bottom eight of the league in yards allowed per game. Sitting at 362, we are one whole half yard behind the Lions, sitting at 361.5.

We’re tied with the Jags in passing yards allowed per game, a staggering 282.2 per game. We average 8.1 yards allowed per pass play. We’ve allowed 102 completions out of 149 attempts, 10 touchdowns, 15 plays of 20+ yards and an average QB rating of 107.1.

The Good news, teams are actually still trying to run the ball on us some and we’re in the top 10 of the league in run D. We average 79.8 yards allowed on the ground and we’ve only had 2 rushing TD’s scored against us. Despite all the passing, we’ve gotten to the QB 9 times which keeps us ranked and tied with a couple teams at 12.

Alright, with all that info now burned in your head let’s talk about the game a little…

Clearly after watching this game, the defense was simply just getting out played in bad situations (short field). We ran basic zone coverage and didn’t send any extra pressure for most of the day. We did anticipate the run some, with an “all eyes on MJD” approach, sometimes we went after him without even seeing a play action pass. We we’re stiff against the pass, and by stiff I mean slow and restricted (totally opposite of what I seen last week, we anticipated passes). We did a great job of closing running lanes for MJD, but for most part we were over aggressive against the run.

The Jags were always in good field position… consisting of drives from 60-35-46-44-41-51-40 yards all resulting in scores. Garrard had great pass protection and got the ball out quick, his passes were dead on, either in front of, underneath or in between our coverage. They threw the ball as if they knew the exact holes in our zone… The Jags moved the ball at will, and the Titans showed nothing but frustration and miss-communication. If I were to put the secondary under the micro-scope, it would most likely come back looking like a bad case of syphilis.
