Good post. I agree with all you said.

The guy is trying to build a team the right way. Over time. Organically.

While I would have loved to see some "splash deals", I wasn't expecting to, nor am I that disappointed.

You save your cap and make the huge fa deal when it is the last peice needed to put you in championship contention. Not to build a team.

I'll be interested to see how he plays this draft. I would like to see a trade down from five, but it takes two to tango. We shall see.

I've taken a couple of hours now to try and digest this extension. It's still not adding up to me. Why did we care about saving money in 2017? Just pay him and let him walk. His numbers aren't good and they are going to get worse. He's a leader? That's nice, lead us for 2017 and **** off. He's now signed until March of 2020. Was that really necessary? Honestly having a hard time accepting this one.

I don't mean to tell you how to live your life but that's a terrible misuse of time and energy.

This may shock you, but some people can multi-task! I mean that I chose not to respond at first and thought about any other angles at play in the extension. Mulled it over during a birthday party for my sister-in-law tonight. Appreciate your advice, though.

Multi-tasking is a myth. Our brains don't work that way.

    Your welcome.

    2017 - 3.95M
    2018 - 3.2M
    2019 - 3.2M
    • $2M fully guaranteed (2017 roster bonus + $1M of 2017 salary)
    • 2017 Roster Bonus: $1M (guaranteed)
    • 2018 Roster Bonus: $500,000 (5th league day of 2018)
    • 2019 Roster Bonus: $250,000 (5th league day of 2019)
    • Pro Bowl Escalator: $250,000
    • 2018-19 Playing Time Incentives: $750,000
    Full details.

Originally he was scheduled to make 5.5M this year.

Guarantee means it's a one year deal with future options for the team.

Making 2M less this year. If he does make next years roster- there's the playing time incentive that he's most likely never going to reach as well.

    I feel better now.

He basically took a paycut and will be staying around longer. Easier to make him a depth guy with this contract imo.

Ok, that explanation sounds good! This will mostly be his last year here then unless he just shows out in a backup role.

I agree with you. I'm cautiously optimistic about Jrob. It's not like everything he touched has turned to gold (Dodd, Johnson, going into last season with that horrible secondary, etc.). I'm also using this season to fully form an opinion about Jrob. He really has no excuses given our discrete needs, huge cap space and premium draft picks.

As for our free agency so far, I'm actually encouraged more than anything. I'm glad he didn't offer 18 straight up for Cooks. I don't think Hightower is worth more than Kuechly. I think Logan and Cyprien are great fits for us. Sly Williams is a bit of a head scratcher. I understand you can't win them all, but Hankins would've been the better option IMO.

Yep, Jrob needs to hit on the first round picks in this draft. It would be inexcusable to go into the season with Tajae getting major snaps. We need to get one of Davis, Williams or Ross. All our other spots at least have decent starters.
