Well that's good to hear.

 

Because Ireland was such a hole for so long. The Irish diaspora is gigantic. As such the country has grown very little over the past 120 years or so. Greece and Serbia are some other countries with a diaspora larger than the domestic population.

 

oh yeah. I'm sure there are tons of actual Irish heritage people.. But I think a lot of people try to co-opt that, even when they aren't. My bro-in-law is kinda like that. Even though he is as German as an American born person can be.

But Lederhosen are not very cool. Or Polka.


I know another guy who I went to High School with, he had red hair.. he used to fake an Irish accent at his job to gain attention (it was an "irish" pub) lol.

People don't emphasize their English heritage, because it's boring and common. Most of us in the NA continent are mutts of some sort. I definitely am. I can trace one side of one side of my Grandma's family back to England in the 700s or so.. but outside of that, my extended family is mostly german/trashy hillbilly.

Everybody tries to be unique. I actually do know another guy who tried to act British. He had never even been there, but loved the culture. I have actually been there.. he hadn't. I had to shut him down. People have a lot of identity crises around here.
