Yea.. it depends on timing and if you think it's futile to waste the time to stop em. Sometimes it's easier to allow and then drive the ball with ample time then it is to try to stop em, fail, cut your time short and have to force the ball...

It's rare you see it in live games, but it's there.

Only in a must let them score situation. I think I have seen it about twice in my life.

Remember the Super Bowl last year where Bradshaw tried to keep from going in for the TD?

That's because he thought it would be better not to score, and I'm sure he gave the Pats what they wanted.

There are actually plenty of scenarios that allowing your opponent to score would make sense.

    1) When your opponent is down by only 2 but has 1st and goal with 2 mins remaining.
    2) When your opponent is tied with you and in easy field goal range, able to run the clock all the way down (basically the same as the first)
    3) There's 3 mins or less left and they are able to run it down to less than 30 seconds, but you're already down by 3. Let them score a TD, so you're down by 10 with about 2:45 left... have to hope to score quick and get the onside kick.

There are other similar scenarios, but that's the concept.

Of course you allow your opponent to score in certain situations. Most offenses have the awareness to not give in though, and lay down at the 1 yard line or something.

When its best for the D to just give up a TD, that's when a Jerry Gray D finally makes a atop
