I know how you feel. My gf was laid off last yr and hasn't been able to find a job. There are jobs she is qualified for but due to her age they won't hire her.

good luck in finding a job

    Not true at all.

I was willing to take practically anything. Warehouses, factories, etc... Not one call in 6 months putting in over 300 applications. I just wanted a paycheck.

Well, I take that back- UPS called me offering me a 4 hour shift (I think?) and their location was about an hour and 30 mins away. So that would have been pointless.

You do know the people in the unemployment line are actually filling out applications too, right?

I finally got a job through a temp agency working 3rd shift packing pencils for about a month before landing a job in my field preference (PURE LUCK).

I'm sure BiP wasn't sitting around trying to stay unemployed either. Not many people like being without funds- especially if they're used to it. I see a company every few months shut their doors. My Uncle is probably about to lose his business. That's about 50 people out of work. Think there are 50 jobs just waiting on them? Doubt it.

Yeah, I hate it when people constantly say "there are jobs out there". There maybe jobs out there, but do you qualify? How many other people are applying for that same job? It's not that easy at all..

One thing I hated, was during the worse of the recession like in 08-09, I would have friends on my Facebook constantly complaining that they had to work, or they didn't want to work this weekend because it got in the way of their partying or whatever it was. I would tell them to just quit and that your job would be replaced in a New York second. I hate til this day that people on my Facebook still complain about having to work.

There are plenty of jobs for everyone if you wanna work in fast food. I put in 2 years working in fast food in high school. I know this goes... You get paid nearly minimum wage to do alot more work than some people do in factories who get paid 2-3x more than you do. Problem is.. fast food jobs won't pay the mortgage. It might pay the rent if you have a roomate or two helping out.

I just got laid off today actually.

Spent 4 years in aviation in the Marines and another 2 in the civilian side. Currently going to school for an aviation degree and I am not sure if I want to keep going for it.

Not to sure what I am going to do at this point, I'm sure everything will work itself out though. Good head on my shoulders and its not something you can buy.

I see you were in the service. If you have free school... Don't mess this up.

I did not mean I was going to stop going to school in general. Just something outside aviation, seems like that window closed for me.

No way I am washing away those benefits. I have been in worse situations before, and all I really have to look after are my dogs, I still have it better than most people.

Ok well here's the problem with that.

Sure, you may be able to get a job at a fast-food place making what... 7.50 an hour? 8? Not sure what minimum wage is now. But we'll say 8.

That's 280 a week (est w/taxing). Which would be ok I guess, if you have no kids (or living expensive).

But if you have even 1 kid, you're looking at 100 a week for those 40 hrs. So already you're down to 180 dollars left. A lot of people can't afford to even take that job.

But even those jobs aren't as available as they once were because they're the filler jobs that everyone is taking now while waiting on better jobs. Notice next time you go to a fast food place- you'll see a difference in workers that didn't used to be there.
