If you just down the ball every time a kickoff goes in the end zone you would avg 25 yds a return. With that average you would have ranked 5th in the league last yr. I'd be happy with that ranking plus you avoid the risk of having a turnover or penalty.

The occasional big return doesn't offset the risks of the bad play that can happen

Just take the free 25 yds if given the opportunity....KC has put themselves in the hole several times tonight bringing the ball out of the end zone

Can't score a touchdown by taking a knee.

Kickers are starting to out smart some of this return guys by putting a bid more hang time or sky kicking near the endzone....and guys falling for it every time.

Low IQ by the return guys and bad coaching is the reason....almost if not all the kickers in NFL have enough juice to kick out end zone but they don't for reason.

I don't think you get yards credited to your stats with a kneel down? I doubt you'll keep your position long with encessive kneels.

If it's at the goal line, catch it in stride and go...if not, kneel and get the 25 yards.

Sometimes the risk works out, 95+% of the time it doesn't when it comes to taking it out of the endzone.

So I just posted a long KR/PR TD thing on another thread. KC is among the best at getting TD on returns. Over the past 4 years, KC led the league with 9 TD.
I can see why they would try to return it, they're typically good at it.
Maybe give some credit to NE?

Incentivizing kneel downs was the purpose of starting at the 25 yd line. I don't really mind the rule. I do like the gamesmanship of the kickers. And I've seen some of the smarter KR guys field the near sideline/goal post KO's by catching with one foot stretched to the line to get the OB penalty.

And of course there was Reynaud's brilliant move to field it on the 1 yd line, then step back into end zone and down it (for a safety).

It was opening day at the Steelers IIRC, but we did eventually win that game.

I'll take starting at the 22 or 23 every time for the chance that we bust a big return, which is actually possible now that we have a decent KR.
