    2006 cap hits
    Givens - $2 mil
    Thornton - $1.6 mil
    Hope - $1.59
    Mawae - $1.56

    Total - $6.75 mil

There is where most of that $10 mil went.

I'd go draft who i wanted and I'd free up the money to sign the rookies elsewhere from the roster...................I would hold onto Mac as long as possible...............if FR wants him to start this yr fine................one yr and done.............but if I release him I would make it the day before his roster bonus is due................if the Ravens want him they'd need to give me compensation in the 07 draft to get him in to learn the O.

Each tick of of the clock drops McNair's market value. Keep him until the VERY last minute, then release him if he doesn't want to be a Titan any more.

Isn't the real issue that if this is the last year of his contract then all the pro-rated bonus money accelerates to this year, thus the 23 $M cap hit for a 9 $M salary?

I would agree that getting room to sign the draft class elsewhere, and just let the contract play out would be nice, but is it really possible?
What is our rookie pool this year?

I don't know if this is accurate, but I've heard it will cost $5 - $6 Million to sign the rooks.

I spent a lot of time thinking about all this today, and I'm having trouble getting past TJ's assertion that Reese created this problem, and that Steve has "taken one for the team" several times. I'm beginning to think that he's due his friggin' money.

I am kinda schizo on this I agree with you completly, BUT I also think McNair needs to sign a more reasonably 3/4 year deal.

Kinda torn, but no way do I want McMVP released to play for another team this fall, traded I could understand but still dislike.
