I'd still be surprised if we made playoffs with Rivers. You claim SD didn't fall short of their playoff goals because of Rivers - i'd agree. But if you take away the QB position from both teams, i'd still consider SD a way better team (talent wise) than ours, IMO.

If we aren't taking a qb at 2, then roll with mett and if he sucks then get rivers next year on the fa market for no picks.

Young teams don't trade away #2 overall picks, even for a guy like Rivers. I like Rivers and I agree he will help but not for that price.

Teams that are a QB away from a play-off run should make a move for him. Buffalo would be a good example...Rivers, McCoy, Harvin, Clay...

Who's the pick at 17 if that's the case?

The article says Rivers and #17 "as a start"....be interesting to see if this becomes reality

WR would be my choice but who will still be there without "reaching"?
    If not WR maybe Gurley?

WR would be my first choice but I wouldn't want to force a pick. Here are a few players that could be there.

WR: DeVante Parker (not likely), Breshad Perriman, Dorial Green-Beckham
OT: La'el Collins, Brandon Scherff, TJ Clemmings
    CB: Trae Waynes

I think WR and OT are priorities in the 1st round but don't rule out one of the OLB's falling, especially Randy Gregory, whose off the field life scares me but may be worth the risk at #17. I also wouldn't rule out, moving up a few spots to target a WR like Parker if he falls.

You would think if we get Rivers..#17 would be used on a WR...trade back up is a possibility
