Ahead of next week's E3 expo, Microsoft announced today that Xbox 360 console sales hit 30 million globally and that over 20 million users are connected to Xbox Live.

In addition, Xbox 360 continues to be the platform of choice for the industry’s top games, generating $5.9 billion in sales to date at U.S. retail for third-party publishers, which is more than those of current-generation consoles combined. Xbox 360 also leads current-generation consoles in game purchases, with consumers owning an average of 8.3 titles each.

Consumers can expect more exciting announcements from Microsoft next week as Xbox 360 kicks off the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), the world’s premier trade show for computer and video games and related products, with its press briefing on Monday, June 1, in Los Angeles.

good news for 360. MS has also announced the Zune market place will be integrated into Xbox Live with a new Zune HD coming out.

I wonder how much of the 30 million is due to RROD.

Admittedly, there are probably quite a few systems re-purchased after the RROD occur, but I'm sure around 90% of people send their systems in for repair.

It says a lot about a system, even with the RROD, when they're sales are that high! :)

None. PS3's are backwards compatible. There were issues with it a couple years back, I believe, but they've since been fixed. Backwards compatibility isn't a big deal either way. It's a new system... you want the new next gen games, not the old ones.

PS3 sells more on a yearly basis then the 360 does.

Most developers also profit more from PS3 games then the 360 games.

Want to be schooled in anything else or will you stick to your current level of fail?

High? It's less then the Wii and on par with the PS3.

Not all PS3s are backwards compatible.

The Wii is the highest because of smaller children who are really into that stuff... and there's always lazy people who, instead of actually working out, prefer an attempt at weight loss through video games.

The 360 and PS3 are geared more towards older teens and adults... most video game fans are children, so naturally the Wii will have more sales.
