Overall a LOT of positives with this new receiver group. Kyle Philips and Treylon Burks led the team in yards and receptions.

    Per NextGenStats:
    WR Treylon Burks:
He averaged 11 yards after the catch on his 3 receptions, tops in the NFL.
He averaged 4.9 yards of separation on his 5 targets, second only to Deebo Samuel (5.0)

Even if Burks turns out to be a stud, the issue is we didn’t really address the receiver situation after losing AJ and Julio. Tannehill, who was never elite to begin with, is heading into his mid 30’s, we don’t know how many years DH22 has left (running backs do not have long careers), we should have brought in a number 1 receiver that can contribute now. Our window of being a contender is not very long…

Per PFF, Burks and Philips both had Top 20 WR grades.
    Burks: 74.9
    Philips: 72.5
Those ranked #1 and #2 among all rookie WRs with 10+ receiving snaps.
#3 was Drake London at 71.5
#4 was Garret Wilson at 70.6

This is great info thanks for providing.

I hope the coaching staff realizes that all of the good PFF grades in the world don't mean anything, if they don't work to get their best players the ball. Burks should have had 5 more targets at least. And Woods disappeared after the 1st quarter. Prob not his fault, but Downing and co. need to specifically design plays to get the ball in these guy's hands more often.

those swaim targets, IMO, were all progression targets

meaning the primary targets were not open

T17 throws into tight coverage it has to be perfect

I was at the game, no one is hardly ever open. Downing’s offense is just pitiful. It’s obvious he has no clue what he’s doing.

Well then the issue is having Swaim on the field at all during a passing situation. Even if you're running play action. He does not need see more then 1-2 targets a game at most. And it's pretty clear that the TE screen was a designed play. If you are calling that play with Geoff Friggin Swaim, you deserve to be fired on the spot.

Makes me think Chig is not really performing.
Hooper was on the field but apparently can’t get open.

The fact swaim was that much more usable than Chig all game really highlights the handoff to Chig. That play made zero sense.

How long is this “Make a wish” experiment with Downing gonna last?
