Ignorance is bliss, but let's educate. Most college defenses play somewhat hybrid defenses because far too often there best players aren't the right size for a position (like a 210lb LB). Ayers played OLB in a 3-4 D (yes they played a mixture of both) and was most comfortable in that role. So he didn't have to learn a new system as he already knew HOW to be a 3-4 olb. So he didn't stink from learning a new system. Secondly, as I said, he played poorly in the preseason against backup players. Mett, on the other hand, ripped up backup teams. So if he can't even play well against 3rd and 4th string players AND not do well in practice AND not play special teams...you've written your way to be deactivated. It has nothing to do with grudges or any such nonsense. Ayers is an easy case because you can see how well he played in pre-season and what he did in practice, etc. When you aren't the starter, you need to do whatever you can to help the team so you are active. Groves is a better special teams player so he is active, plays special teams and rotates in at OLB sometimes. That could have been Ayers spot except he didn't earn it!

So you must think all our backup players are there because Whiz holds grudges. Then you might take a look at guys like Avery Williamson who wasn't a starter...but EARNED a role on special teams which gave him a chance to get a little playing time which led to him earning a chance to start and then BOOM, he's the starter. This is where your logic doesn't work and breaks down. Whiz has been more willing to play young players than most coaches but they have to EARN it as SHOULD be the case. Ayers was the opposite of Williamson.

Who exactly has Whiz been KNOWN to give up on far to early? Names?

Who did Whiz bench to spite himself just to hold a grudge in Arizona?

And williamson proceeds to get thrown around like a rag doll by Steve Smith. Ayers was our best option hands down. He just didn't get the chance in the REGULAR season which is far more important than the PRESEASON. He was holding a grudge on Ayers based on his performance in the PRESEASON.

Don't really remember last season in full but he started, got injured then benched. Had knee surgery in the offseason. Rehabbed all off season, played in a couple preseason games as a backup. I don't think he ever started this year.

ROFL!!! Yes, any NFL player (not most kickers though) can throw another down when HOLDING them! LOL!!! And yes, that's what we call...a PENALTY!

So Ayers was a better OLB (hands down?) than Morgan, Wembley and Phillips based on...his total lack of ability to keep outside contain on run plays and his almost near lack of a pass rush against backups?

What you call a 'grudge,' us coaches call PERFORMANCE!!! If you don't earn a starting spot, you need to play special teams to be activated on Sundays (which Ayers had no interest in...not a grudge) so he was deactivated. That's on Ayers PERFORMANCE...not because of a grudge.

You might be the only person I 'know' who thinks people should be promoted for poor performance just because...you think so and you don't wanna hold a 'grudge!!!'
