Cook loving Hernandez deal...

That puts the average closer to $6mil a year, actually... which is very high for a TE.

Hernandez has shown a lot more - thanks to Brady, but still... Cook should not be getting that much.

6 year/$24-30mil range is a lot more reasonable. I do think Cook is going to have a breakout year, so getting a deal done now would be nice.

yea Cook is no Hernandez. He would be smart if he waited till he has a few big games.

 

Hernandez is a top 4 TE, Cook is top 10 at best. No way should Cook use this deal as leverage. That's like Matt Schaub using a Tom Brady contract as leverage. (don't get me wrong, I love Cook).

 

Cook will deserve 4-5M per year if he ever learns the damn offense and starts showing up to more than a quarter of our games.

He's also nowhere near a top 10 TE in the league - maybe top 10 receiving TE but his blocking is atrocious.

 

I too agree, its more important to sign him now.

Locker will lean on him heavily in his first year. Young QBs in general, especially those that like to scramble, use their TE's early and often (finding him on bootlegs and especially when the pocket breaks down / avoiding rush). This means there's a big chance his stats are inflated next year, so it makes sense to try and get a deal done now.

Something random about Cook, he loves to lay himself out, and he often does a good job catching the ball when he dives for it. But, i've also noticed that he often doesn't land well when he goes up like that. He needs to take more care.

Remember even on his long pass play last year, when he jumped in the end-zone to celebrate (it was a feet first layout type dive). He def hurt himself doing it, and tried not to show it. During the pre-season he had a nice catch, he was also slow to get up. I think he needs to be more careful.

 

Still too much money like others are saying. He can be a ghost for a couple games in a row. We don't use TEs like NE does (although I wish we would). I like the 7 year deal but not the amount of money necessarily.

 

When we pay guys they have a tendency to suck. Make Cook prove hes not a 2nd TE, then pay him
