At his age, 6M is too much. Again, with a better pass rush we could always make our secondary much better in general.

 

The issue is that teams don't let those guys go. An above average player like Olivier Vernon will run you about $17M. No way we make someone like that the highest paid player on the team. We have a much greater chance of getting a pass rusher in the draft.

 

What are you talking about? Orakpo a top pass rusher that year when we acquired him is making 6M per.

 

His cap hit is right under $10M, and it is only that low because it was a bit of a risk due to his injury history.

The 3 players with pass rush ability signed in FA who come to mind are Vernon, Campbell, and Jackson, and all of which have cap hits in the $15-17M range next season.

You won't find anything close to Orakpo for $10M in the upcoming FA class, nor any other for that matter.

 

Whatever dude you obviously do not know how contracts work. None of NFL contracts are guaranteeed. Besides guaranteed money.

 

Caleis & Vernon are far better than Orakpo. And Vernon is scheduled to make 11M this year.

 

Who is set to become available as a pass rusher?

Burnett may actually be available and be an upgrade. We have the cap to spend anyway, use some of it. 6M isn't all that high.

Vernon is not better than Orakpo. Not better in general, and certainly not $6-7M better per year. You can't exclude the bonuses that are amortized throughout the life of the contract just because they hurt your argument.

Campbell, sure. But for how long, is the question. Teams only let good pass rushers go due to injuries, age, or other red flags. He's earned his money, unlike Vernon IMO.
