Is firing Mularkey during the season a bad idea?

Honestly, when Fisher stopped holding people/coaches accountable, that was the first crack in the dam. VY was a bit of an aberration because he also had the height of CJ. But ultimately, VY didn't have the right mental makeup and we chose much worse with Locker. Bad GM's, bad picks, bad coaching choices are ultimately what has been holding this franchise back.

Fans will always point to players because...like qb's, we love EM when they win and hate EM when they lose. But as I've previously pointed out, good to great coaches win with less. Patriots beat the Texans 27-0 with a rookie 3rd string qb with 1 week of reps. Mularkey loses that game every time!

And fans love to make the chemistry argument and to SOME extent it's valid, but nearly as much as you think. Fans misinterpret a player adapting to a new scheme as a chemistry problem but frequently it's a gm problem brining someone in who doesn't fit their scheme. The Pat's bring in vets every year and frequently they work out. Didn't we just bring in Demarco after he looked terrible in a scheme that didn't mesh with his style?

Orakpo fits our scheme so he fits in. Spence fits our scheme so he fits in. See a pattern?

Different ownership. I'm not saying to keep a bad coach, I'm saying that just like you have to give a QB a couple of years to tell if he's good or not, you have to give a HC a couple of years to shape his staff and roster. If after 2-3 years there's not a significant change, you look for someone else.

So let's say our next HC has a previous .450 record and in his first year with the Titans the team is 5-11. Do you replace him?

He wouldn't play here, doubt he would coach here. In fact, with the problems we have right now, finding a very good HC may be a struggle. We couldn't even get a veteran QB to come here.

Fisher left here because he had very little say in what went on. After the VY fiasco, when he went to Adams I am sure he asked for more authority, but Adams refused, and out the door went Fisher. Some coaches get input, others get paid to coach whomever the GM (and owner - think Jerry Jones) decide to draft.

terrible idea. That would mean we wouldn't have a top 5 pick next year

I think the problem with majority of this staff is they weren't respected from the start. Many of the hires came with a wtf response, because of poor track records and it being years since they did anything meaningful.
When you start off terrible then you are met with skepticism and people calling for your heads. Most were bad hires, that's the reality. You don't give bad hires 2-3 years to get worse, I hope AAS cuts the loses and let's JRob have a say.

What has Manning ever done to make anyone think he would be a good coach? He's been reported to categorically refuse to mentor younger QB's while he was playing. Not a good sign for a future coach.

while he was playing. I get what your saying but the man understands the game in ways tht would be foreign language to anyone else. There's a reason he's one of the best coaches ever.
