Josh Turner is amazing and anybody that thinks country boys can't sing, listen to him, the guy has an amazing voice, here's another great Josh Turner song:

This is a great song. I love the story telling aspect of it. I'm kinda a soft person deep down... I really can't help it but I still get choked up when hearing this song. It reminds me of how low I have been in life. Look at me now and you might not know it but once I was homeless... just stuck with no direction... going nowhere... All I really had was Christ and it's not that HE wasn't enough... it's just when I hear this song it only reminds how close our pride can take us to the fall... that and no matter who you are... or what you do, or where you have been... everyone counts. The rich man is no better than the poor man and sometimes it turns out that even the most destitute with no apparent reason to continue on have a reason to be. This song reminds me to be thankful for what I have and not to want.

If you like witty wordplay, strong musicianship and good story telling, this is as good as it gets. If you ever have an opportunity to see the large band live, do it. You won't be disappointed.

I've seen Lyle twice. I never understood why he wasn't more popular.

I've seen him a few times as well. I actually met him once in the Mobile, AL airport. His music is accessible enough for the general public I think, but the problem is that he's nearly impossible to classify. Is he Country? Folk? Blues? Jazz? Boogie? Swing? Pop? Rock? Western? Classical? The answer is "yes" and that means he gets left out when it comes to commercial radio, tv, etc.

The commercial market is set for specific genres and when an artist doesn't fit in the box, they get left out. I'm surprised he has been as successful as he has, in spite of his immense talent.

If you think about it, what radio station could you imagine playing his music? What music video station? He just doesn't fit.

Although I don't consider myself a "fine music connoisseur", I have to agree 100% with this statement. Personally I like a lot of music ranging from Mozart to Rammstein to Eminem to Johnny Cash, it really depends on the quality of the individual piece.

My condolences for having had to land there. (I can say that...i was born there).

As to why Lyle wasn't more popular, it's sad but true: looks are everything. That's why Christopher Cross went from mega-million chartbuster to zero overnight.
