A former sixth round pick with two years of experience and no wins is now going to mentor someone?

 

look at all the teams who fell apart last year after their starter went down. Us, Dallas, Pitt, Baltimore, Green Bay.

Then look at the guys who had a #2. Cincinnati, NYJ, and Denver, all 3 made the playoffs..

As important as the franchise QB is, without a solid 2nd guy your season could be gone in an instance..

 

0 of those three teams made the playoffs because of the play of their backup QB.

 

thats a big fat wrong-o there bud, how do you qualify for the playoffs? Winning games. All of those teams with #2's leaned on them for wins.

We need to draft a QB or get a solid vet....without question

 

Cassel was on his way out when he came in this offseason. But if he had to play its not an automatic L like with Mett.

Id like to see us groom Tanney for a another year, he might save us from burning a draft pick on a QB.

If teams felt a great backup was a huge need they'd be drafting QBs left and right. Teams know that they can't depend on back up QBs. You get one that is "good enough" and don't have to pay much and hope your starter doesn't go down or comes back quickly.

 

Vikings, Titans, Niners, Texans, Redskins, Rams, Bears, Browns, Cards, and probably a few others ALL went out and gave millons to their new backups.

The #2 guy matters... Not as much as a #2 WR/or other guy who will rotate into the lineup but youre dead in the water without a spare tire...
