My Dearest Elizabeth week 3 of 2015 campaign

My Dearest Elizabeth,

By now you have assuredly heard rumors of the defeat in Nashville sunday. Woe be the truth Libby, but I will tell you the whole story so as to buttress your spirits.

In the midst of preparations for the Indianapolis offensive sunday we were saddened by news from Florida. Our eastern youth brigade failed in their swamp offensive. Reports are that brevet General Jones let the glory the troops had all but secured slip thru his fingers like sand thru a wagon wheel. Beth there are rumors that political powers shift under General Jones's feet. Forsooth it might be.

But enough of that sad news Bess. Although the night was rainy the day of the battle was but overcast and the field was exemplary. The Titans discouraging offensive start was at least matched by the Colts ineptitude. The Indianapolis Company did dent the Tennessee defense and were at a small advantage a quarter thru the battle. Then, and I know how bewildering you will find this Liza, but I let the Colt's intercept one of my missles and they broke free and put the Titans at a distinct disadvantage. Dont blame Lieutenant Walker for what happened Tess. He is a good man and nobody suspects malingering. Lt. Walker braved the field with a wounded hand. Surly this was the root Eliza.

Though the battle's outcome looked bad the troops were not discouraged. I rallied the boys and fight back we did. Buffy with a mere 12 minutes left in the battle the Titans had overwhelmed the invading Colt company and held a commanding lead. The Colts had only 6 feet of greenery and a large deficit to overcome. For reasons known only to himself General Wizenhunt allowed the neckbearded pony leader to gather his wits. The Indianapolis pretender lived up to his name Zizi and Luck be his name. With only 6 minutes left in the battle the Lucky pony had marched his horses 98 yards and were within one score of taking the lead. Then true disaster struck Ellie. It is with great shame that I tell you these words. I misread the defense and allowed the ponies a short field to attack from. And just like that we were losing the battle. Curse the Luck. General Wizenhunt had no offensive answers and we had to give the invading ponies the ball back. General Wizenhunt had no defensive answers either Lettie and the invading ponies had the Titans at an 8 point defecit with only 158 seconds left in the encounter.

Betsy the boys in two tone blue did not despair. General Wizenhunt allowed me to operate out of the shotgun and without huddle. We marched thru those glue bound hags and private Fowler punished invaders to get that score with under a minute left. Everyone knew the Titans needed a conversion. The Titan artillery was perfect on this play as sergeant Douglas had the 2 yards with ease but the cheating pony Brown intentionally punished Douglas and we had to try again from the one yard line. General Wizenhunt called on private Fowler again. He had just ran thru the pony defenses without a doubt Fowler could do it again. But the ponies used their ill gotten time to their advantage and were ready for private Fowler.

Somewhere the sun is shining bright, the band is playing and hearts are light.
Somewhere men and women laugh, and joyous children shout
but not in Nashville for the rearward attack of Fowler was for naught.

The Titans were one yard short my dearest Elizabeth
