Scheme is only as good as the players in it. It is the Jimmy's and the Joe's not the X's and the O's.

Now maybe games were not being called well, players were not prepared well, etc. All that falls on coaches. Still though, the players were weak. Babineaux should not be playing SS in the NFL. Much less starting. Griffin played like crap and was asked to compensate for way too much. He is not good enough to play well alongside weak teammates. We had no depth at CB which killed nickle and dime packages. LB was average at best with McCarthy out most of the time. Thankfully it picked up when Brown started playing. And the pass rush was inadequate.

He needs good players around him. With Pollard, and Wilson too, Griff should be back to his old self.

I'm not so sure how much of an impact they will make as opposed to more pressure up front, but hey it sure cant hurt!

Then you don't need that kind of safety to be your LAST LINE OF DEFENSE on the field. If he's just a centerfielder, then he can make 500K a year, and only play on 3rd and long. He is not a starting safety.

Griff was forced to compensate for playing with a terrible SS and terrible NB. Now he can just focus on what he needs to do because he has others around who can do their job.

Those centerfielders are the ball-hawks that get the big pay days. Ed Reed, Jairus Byrd, Earl Thomas etc.

It's on the coaches to change it up when a scheme obviously isn't working. We got tore up in every game up to week 5. It wasn't working. Do something else Gray dammit. Play to your strengths, not your weaknesses.
