RIP 3.5 mm Audio Jack

    Apple iPhone 7 Release Date, Price and Specs - CNET

    Even though it was expected for a few months, it became official today. Apple will not be using the 3.5 mm audio jack. They are trying to accelerate the adoption of wireless headphones, which is probably why they bought Beats. Wired headphones will still be able to connect to the iPhone 7 via a proprietary lightning jack adaptor.

    The new AirPods, Apple's wireless earbuds, will not be sold with the phone and will retail for $159.

    Of course, now we have to worry about what headphones work with what device. With the 3.5 mm jack, I could just walk into Walmart and buy a pair of $10 headphones to wear while working out.

    Hooray for corporate greed.

    What really bugs me is the AirPods are not included with the phone. If a company is going to push a new product, then at least include it with the device it was intended for.

    I dont really care what apple does since I prefer Android but I do hate when they change these types of things

    I have all my old chargers I still use. Got em all stashed here and there so that im always at max battery

    Havnt used wired headphones in 2 years. Bluetooth headphones at an all time low in price. Some places selling them for 20 bucks. Don't need those air buds Bruh. But wireless isn't a bad thing.

    Not all of them. But the early ones were terrible. Muffled mfers. Still, what's the issue of they have the adapter

    The way I understand it from reading an article about the AirPods, and I might be mistaken, is that the headphones don't connect via Bluetooth, but via a proprietary W1 technology in the phone. Basically, the headphones have to be Apple friendly, which means if I have a pair of expensive wireless headphones right now that aren't Apple friendly, I need to buy a pair that are.

    Of course, we all know Beats will be Apple friendly.

    Corporate greed at its finest.
