It was my understanding that unless he played six regular season games or more, his contract would be tolled for a year. Can't remember where I read that. I'll try to find a link.

But this has a big influence on revenue. I understand the Titans will gain a full year of his contract if he is out the entire season. I forget the terms of his deal but that is a significant amount of money they won't have to pay him the year he was to become a free agent.

But I do think it is more than a financial decision and I'm sure Bud (or Underwood) has talked to the league office on their feelings about his return this season.

And how does the commissioner talking to an owner about one of his player a conflict of interest? The commissioner is approved by the owners.

Saying Pacman makes little difference on defense is about as crazy as saying T.O. makes little difference on offense. Even at 30% he'd be a great upgrade over Nick "give up the game winner" Harper. Plus, he can actually find the ball when it's up in the air unlike ol'nick.

Talking and influence or pressure are different. No way the commissioner openly allows an owner to influence his decision on administration/punishmnent of a player on that owner's franchise. The other owner's would be up in arms if they perceived that Goodell possibly reduced or lengthened a marquee player's punishment on another team.

Yes, I believe Bud Adams has influenced Goodell's decision to keep Jones out the rest of the season. I have a hard time believing that Goodell didn't seek the opinion of the Titans throughout this process.

We will never know how much the opinion of the Titans in this matter influenced his decision but I would lay cash down that Goodell knew what Bud would feel about it and would not be shocked to know Bud's desire here was a factor in his decision.
