That was one of my favorite movies growing up. I'd love to see a remake done right.

Only real Kong film I ever liked.

There is so much weird backstory to that movie. Toho wanted to originally pit Kong against Giant Frankenstein. That fell thru and they subbed Godzilla for Frankie. Frankenstein later got his own kaiju flick (Frankenstein Conquers the World) and an oddball sequel with his twin "sons" in War of The Gargantuas.

I have a Bandai collectable Kong from that movie. Bought it ages ago and never removed the tag. I post it on the Vintage Monster Toy group once in a while and watch those guys drool..

KKvG is a profoundly unusual flick. The "black" Japanese islanders.
Kong gets drunk and kills an octopus.
The score from Creature From the Black Lagoon used throughout..
Kong on fishing wire and balloons. Those obscene puppets, etc..

Thats what made it so great though. As silly as some of the scenes were, it LOOKED really good at the time.

I remember when I was a kid, I woke up screaming at night because the trees outside my window made a silhouette that looked like Godzilla. I wasn't even old enough to be in kindergarten at the time, crazy how you remember stuff like that.

That's awesome.. The only Godzilla film that scared me as a kid was GvHedora or as we knew it then Gv The Smog Monster. There were some horrific elements in that film that weren't really kid-friendly..

Yea I remember seeing that movie and thinking 'wow'. I think shortly after that film they started marketing Godzilla towards a younger crowd.

This one was actually square in the middle of all those kid-friendly Monster Island films. Baffling. Three preceding movies featured the son of Godzilla and the three subsequent films were Gigan/Megalon and Mecha - all very tame flicks..

While we're off on this tangent, is the recent Godzilla movie worth watching?
