They really need to end it next season then.

Sounds like it will indeed reach Dexter bad levels soon though.

I have no problems with a setup episode and last weeks episode was pretty real good so I will forgive this one.

It's not that its a setup episode. It's what they appear to be setting up - which looks lame and may be a shift to the stupider side of things.
I do not mind setup episodes and I honestly don;t care about kill counts at all..

I was just annoyed with everyone acting all emo the entire episode.

lol I really liked the episode and Cruds spoiler I don't think you need to worry.

Also this show will run forever. It can be easily argued that TWD is the most successful TV show (drama) in television history. Hell, The Talking Dead was the 4th most watched show last week....

It is progressing slightly faster than I thought it would. I would say there are 3 solid seasons worth of material before catching up to comics.

I will tell you why (in general) The Walking Dead is so successful...

It is mostly mindless entertainment that doesn't necessarily require as much attention to dialogue that other shows might. And for whatever reason, most people (ages 12-30) seem to love zombies.

I've enjoyed it, but there have been plenty of better shows on during TWD's run (hint hint your favorite show that also aired on AMC amongst others). Yet those shows don't generate the same large audiences because they usually appeal to a niche audience while TWD attracts the overwhelming majority of middle schoolers, high schoolers, and college kids... the ones typically watching the most TV.

It's not "the most successful drama" strictly on it's own merit. It's so successful because kids who like explosions will also enjoy zombies.

I enjoy the show... just saying it is WAY overrated. UT kids were jizzing over TWD... but wouldn't watch the other AMC show that shall not be named to appease your needs. :)

The numbers TWD gets don't line up with the actual quality of the show.

You have to separate quality vs. profitability. I've had this argument about movies, but there is no way in ****ing hell Transformers is amongst the greatest movies of all time; in my opinion Transformers is what is wrong with movies today... BUT, it is financially successful.

While I agree with the "mindless dialogue" (nice pun), I disagree that has anything to do with being a main reason of success (although I tend to give people too much credit). I also disagree that it's only teens and college watching, the demographics clearly show its more than that.

It's a success in large part because Horror and Apocalyptic Survival are hot genres which do attract both male and female demographics of a large age run, AND the show takes itself seriously to become compelling during large portions. A lot of the success is the fantasy of what you would do if you were in this group or situation and the fear/horror element of what comes next, as well as the demonizing of humanity in the situation.

I don't particularly think TWD is the most quality show of all time, but it's miles ahead of Transformers movies which I would dub as "effects porn" and nothing else.

I would say BB is better than TWD, but it wouldn't be by that much for me... dialogue and story by a long shot but overall entertainment it's much closer.

I agree the show will run forever. AMC has already said as much. Unlike the BB/Saul shows etc, AMC owns TWD outright - it's their own production so they are banking on it, the coming spinoff and the Talking Dead show to continue to pull numbers.
I hope you're right about the new twist. I've read the details of who/what fans of the comic think this is. From that it all depends on how they present it.
if the "photo" they show in the preview is the old prison and not the supposed safe-zone then they are in potential shark-jump waters. No way somebody follows them through-out the whole jumble of stuff that's happened since the prison - looking clean and loaded with nice fresh bottles of water etc.
    .
    I'll watch either way...

Oh it's absolutely miles ahead of the Transformers type. It's a quality show... it's just not anywhere as good as the numbers suggest IMO.

All I meant is that it will attract a lot of the same kids who like movies such as Transformers.

To be honest, I liked the first Transformers when I saw it... but I haven't seen it in like 7 years now? I doubt I'd still like it. I was obsessed with Megan Fox when I first saw it too.

I side in defense of TWD here - nothing against BB,which I easily have in my top 3 or so all-time (I'll be honest I catch myself thinking about BB a lot - just randomly. There is an emotional string to that show for me).

Anyways, in regard to TWD I think the show remains pretty faithful to the George Romero school and I spoke aloud for years wanting a post-apocalypotic undead show that had ties to the Pittsburgh gang, used mainly practical FX and played by the Romero rules (zombies don't run etc).

I don't know that anyone here knows who Nicotero is outside of the long haired guy that talks on TTD but he is Tom Savini's protege and was the FX guy for half of Romero's films (and pretty much every practical FX horror flick since 1990). This is the guy you want making your undead TV show. It is literally Day of The Dead - the TV version..

Aside from mandatory episodic kill counts and having to oblige the comic-related characters I can't complain about much going on in TWD. I love the fact that they sneak in little homages to classic horror characters (Evil Dead /Ash was a sneaky inclusion in this last episode. Last season they did Tar Baby from Return of The Living Dead).

This show appeals to the demographic and mindset that RavensSB mentions in his post - but in no way is limited to that demographic. I work several of the bigger CTZ region horror cons annually and spend a bit of time working next to several of the actors, current and "dead" from TWD and they get lines out the door of people of all ages and demos. Yes, there's plenty of mindless teeny boppers who never heard of Night of The Living Dead but then there's just as many old timers and horror hounds in line right next to them..
