You don't make the trade because you trust your eval skills to hit with the #18 pick and have a starter for cheap for 5 yrs....rather than having to pay big money to keep Cooks happy. JRob knows that in this draft their isn't much difference in talent between #5 and #11 and so he was more than willing to move down and essentially trade a 3rd for Cooks.

Yep. Read that wrong. My bad.

Breaking this down, #5 is worth 1,700. #11 is 1,250. That means Cooks is worth 450 which is a mid-second if it was a straight swap. I think JRob does this in a heartbeat if he thinks Cooks is the answer.

I understand the Saints wanting more. Pick #100 is only worth 100.

So the #5 and #100 for #11 and Cooks makes him right at a value of #35.

If Cooks was in this draft, he's be a great value if taken at #35, IMO.

The deal the Saints received, points wise, makes Cooks worth pick #30 or a 70 point difference. To match that, the Titans would have needed to swap #5, #100 and #112 for #11 and Cooks.

But it all hinges on what JRob thinks is needed. If he wants more size, Cooks isn't that.

It will be interesting to see how the Malcolm Butler situation ends up. At the time that the Cooks deal was done he had not signed his tender and thus could not be included in the deal. You just have to wonder if their wasn't a back room deal done with the knowledge that after the Cooks was done the Pats would then do a deal with Butler.

If I were the Saints I would not give up #32 for Butler because in this draft you can get a CB that won't cost you a fortune at #32.

I really really really hope that no one caves into the Pats huge demands for Jimmy G and that they are left with their 1st pick being in the 4th rnd this yr and then having to let Jimmy G walk next yr.

Cooks would have been nice and honestly it may have been a better move but we won't know that for a few years.

We would have essentially had Cooks and who ever we decide to take at 5 (instead of Davis) in that scenario and we would have given up Adoree and Taywan Taylor.

Looking back IDK why were thinking it would happen..

As it was stated many times in this thread I'm sure --- if he was unhappy & etc with a gunslinger at QB, 5000 yard QB --- then he def wouldn't sit well with a run first offense.
